Up, Up & Away: Budding young songwriter Jimmy Webb supplied the Fifth Dimension with their breakthrough hit, 1967's "Up, Up and Away." An ode to the pleasures of flying in a beautiful balloon, the song became the group's first Top Ten hit, peaking at number seven, and went on to sweep the Grammy Awards, taking home five total (including Record of the Year and Song of the Year).
The Magic Garden: With the popularity of Jimmy Webb's composition, "Up Up & Away", the group eagerly agreed to team up with him on their second LP, The Magic Garden. Webb's girlfriend at the time, Susan, was the inspiration for these songs. It was almost like a storybook as one song was beautifully connected to the next. Although none of these songs topped the charts, it is considered to be one of the finest of all their albums. |
